BEGUN THE MICRO SERIES HAS
The Star Wars: Clone Wars micro-series, which consisted of 25 episodic shorts directed by Genndy Tartakovsky and produced by Lucasfilm, ran on television between 2003-2005. Running for three seasons, the first 20 chapters were between two and three minutes each, with the final five episodes of Season 3 timing out at about 12 minutes each.
While this 2D precursor to 2008’s 3D animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series is not considered part of the official Star Wars story, the series did include several voice performers who transitioned to the separate 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie and series: James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Tom Kane (Yoda), Terrence “T.C.” Carson (Mace Windu), and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO).
Clone Wars was executive produced by Genndy Tartakovsky, Claudia Katz, Brian A. Miller, and George Lucas, with Jennifer Pelphrey serving as supervising producer and Geraldine Symon as producer. It is now streaming on Disney+ under the name Star Wars: Clone Wars 2D Micro-Series.
THE STORY
Clone Wars takes place between the events of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. While not officially part of the Star Wars storyline, it imagines several events that might have occurred during the Clone Wars involving Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padmé Amidala, and droids R2-D2 and C-3PO. The series would also introduce villain General Grievous in the lead up to his cinematic debut in Revenge of the Sith, as well as a character who would return in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars 3D animated series — Asajj Ventress.
