A HOMEGROWN PRODUCTION BROUGHT STAR WARS TO THE SMALL SCREEN
Although Star Wars: Return of the Jedi would be the last theatrical Star Wars adventure for many years, George Lucas was interested in telling other stories from the galaxy far, far away on television. Made entirely in Northern California where Lucasfilm was headquartered, Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure premiered on ABC in November of 1984.
Independent filmmaker John Korty, who years before had inspired Lucas and others to establish their own film operations near San Francisco, both directed and photographed Caravan. Former Industrial Light & Magic executive Thomas G. Smith joined as producer, while experienced Star Wars concept artist Joe Johnston became production designer. Return of the Jedi cast member Warwick Davis (then still in his teens) reprised his role as the beloved Ewok, Wicket.
THE STORY
The Towani family’s starcruiser crashes on the forest moon of Endor and the separation of two children from their parents sets into motion an incredible adventure that takes four-year-old Cindel (Aubree Miller), and her older brother, Mace (Eric Walker), into the unfamiliar world of the Ewoks.
