The Visual Effects Legend Co-Created Some Iconic Software
John Knoll – Chief Creative Officer and Senior Visual Effects Supervisor at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) – is being honored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2019.
John, along with his brother Thomas Knoll and Mark Hamburg of Adobe, will receive a Scientific and Engineering Award (Academy Plaques) for their pioneering work on the computer program Photoshop. The Knoll brothers first created Photoshop as a side-project in 1987 (John had already begun his ILM career as a Technical Assistant and Motion Control Camera Operator).
